Hi all! Camp S.O. Cool was so successful last year, that we've decided to add a few weeks. Here's a description of our first week:

July 9 - 13 Leonardo Da Vinci: Being Leo
You (as Leo... or Leah...) have been summoned by the Prince of Milan who has a lot of work for you. He needs portraits of his family; he needs a better siege machine to attack his enemies; and he wants an invention puzzle—whatever that is! As you learn about Leonardo’s life you will recreate his catapult and test its aim, recreate his drawings of anatomy (you’ll dissect stuff, just like he did) and machines. You'll also use home made ink and egg tempera, and try to design your own mechanical invention!
July 16 - 20 Get out of the Dark Ages: The World is Round…. Isn’t it?

‘Science’ is new and dangerous, and you are competing with the likes of Galileo and Newton! To show you’re worthy, you need to demonstrate how you can prove the world is round and other new-fangled “facts” about our world. Try to do a puzzle without the number '0'! Then you will be hired to develop some excellent arms (things that explode and shoot) and to aim them well. Then of course, you’ll need to build better defensive castles! When you have succeeded, design your own coat of arms and become a Noble!
July 23 - 27 MUNCH: Farm to Table

If you are what you eat... and you eat like most Americans, Ick. You’re going to taste-test your way through the grocery store, read labels and actually pronouce those words on the back of the label. Then you’ll trek to a farm and a greenhouse to see (and taste) how food can be grown organically and sustainably. We’ll start our own hydroponic garden, tackle a lot of cooking challenges ‘Top Chef’ style as well as talk to professional chefs about the foods they use. Last, we’ll create some cool crafts that come directly from the farm and the creatures that live there. Baaaaa Mu.
Aug. 20 - 24 STOP the MOTION: Film Making/Animation

Learn about set design, film makeup, directing and editing! Create your own stop-motion animation masterpiece, add music and voice over, then send it on up to Youtube like the pros. You’ll also learn the mechanics and science behind movie making. Bring your keen eye and imagination and get ready for your close-up!
Aug. 27 - Sept. 1 Getting Medieval: Come to the Faire!

Join the Guilds! Create illuminated manuscripts, a felted pouch for your wares, sing troubadour songs and learn how to make chain mail, construct an arch and work with leather. Want to build a castle? Learn what it takes. Want to be a Knight? Get some skills but bring your own trebuchet... ok. You can borrow ours! Brush up on your lute skills and meet us at the Faire.
