Here's a brief description of our upcoming 2016 sessions. We hope to see you there!Session 1: July 5 - 8
STORYTELLING ($300 - 4 days)
This week, we'll focus on a wide varieties of story telling, as well as focus on COGO a modern story-telling project with it's own language.
Session 2: July 11 - 15
Session 3: July 18 - 22
FILM CRITICISM for Kids! ($400)
Learn the tricks, styles and tools film makers use to create their films that make us laugh, make us scream, make us cry. We'll set up some shots and figure out how different genres would tackle them. You'll learn the language of the professional critics as we look closely at some of your favorite films.
Session 4: July Aug. 1 - 5
PARKS AND RECREATION ($400)
What makes a great park? How do people design cities and green spaces? We’ll look at some of the most famous park designs, then explore our own local parks and see how they rate. We’ll design our own park as well.
Session 5: Aug. 8 - 12
COOL-ONOMICS (FREAKANOMICS FOR KIDS) ($400)
Can numbers tell a story? Can you measure the kinds of choices you make? What’s the best way to measure time? Can you measure the likelihood of having a test tomorrow? Can one measure why you would not share with a sibling, but instead risk having both of you lose a toy? Yes to all. But first, we'll start with donuts.
Session 6: AUG 15-19
Session 7: AUG 22-26
ENDANGERED SPECIES ($400)
Did you know that over 150 species die every 24 hours? Why? Can we do anything about it? We're going to investigate, and then visit some of them (Turtleback Zoo, the Raptor Center and other locations). We'll also examine the global trail of ivory, one of the primary reasons for the loss of elephants.
Session 8: AUG 29 - SEPT 2
CITIZENSHIP and DEMOCRACY ($400)
Politics are crazy, but why? Does democracy actually work? How would you run things if you could? We'll explore citizenship and meet some local movers and shakers. Maybe Camp S.O. Cool can come up with a better system!
