We didn't know what it was. Was it a vandalized sculpture? A run down thing?
We tried to figure it out.
So we went into the Hilton library to ask a librarian (they still exist!!)
And Jennifer Burkholder kindly told us. A thoughtful high school student wrote the government to ask for a part of the World Trade Center cite when parts of it were being distributed around the country for memorials. The city set it by the library but the Department of Public Works has not kept it up. We think this is particularly shameful. Stay tuned to what we will try to do to help our park system correctly honor the dead.
