After sitting abandoned for over 50 years, the building at 97 Orchard Street was found in 1989 by Ruth Abram and Anita Jacobson who wanted to found a museum that honored America 's immigrants. We got to visit the 1878 home of the Jewish-German Gumpertz family and the 1939 home of the Italian-Christian Baldizzis.
